West Chatham Elementary students participating in the Title I, Part A program and their families agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and describes how the school and parents/families will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.
JOINTLY DEVELOPED
Hold family/parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed regarding the individual child’s achievement.
These documents are jointly developed between the school and the families/parents through the Family Forum feedback meeting, family/parent surveys, and other forms of feedback throughout the year. Additionally, teachers and students provided input. Family/Parent-School Compact can be used as a reference for families/parents when asking questions
To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand the district's and school’s goals for student academic achievement.
SAVANNAH-CHATHAM COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM’S GOALS:
1. Promote the development of foundational skills and expand early learning opportunities.
2. Advance proficiency in literacy and numeracy through high-quality instruction and support for diverse learners.
3. Enhance learning opportunities to develop the critical thinking and interpersonal skills needed for workforce development and college readiness.
4. Provide high-quality support and services for whole child development.
West Chatham Elementary School GOALS:
1. To help our students effectively grasp grade-level curriculum content to promote readiness for the next grade level.
2. To provide a safe environment conducive to learning in which students can develop at their level of potential

With advance notice, your child’s teacher is available for conferences before and after school. Contact your child’s teacher with any questions concerning your child’s education by calling (912)395-3600

To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together to achieve the following:
SCHOOL/TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
West Chatham Elementary School will:
- Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the state’s student academic achievement standards.
Teachers will:
- Provide on-level books to read at home and parents with access to reading fluency programs such as Amira to help build reading fluency during home practice.
- Provide practice work to help students retell each story that is read to them or by them.
- Provide math resources to assist parents with practicing mathematic skills at home.
- Send home practice packets for students to practice sight words and phonic skills.
PARENT/FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES:
We, as parents, will:
- Read with my child for 20 minutes each night to help improve reading fluency
- Listen while my child retells each story he/she reads to you each night
- Have my child practice counting to 120 aloud weekly
- Have my child practice filling in missing numbers when counting or skip counting
(5, 10, 15, __, 25…) (skills practice provided by the teacher)
- Help my child practice addition and subtraction number facts to 100 with or without flashcards 3x a week.
- Help my child practice identifying numbers up to 120 or higher weekly by using magnetic numbers on the refrigerator, on cards, or even by writing them
- Help my child practice his/her knowledge of whether a number is larger or smaller than another number when you are cooking (use a number of cups, etc…) or in any way you prefer
-Help your child practice phonics skills and sight words using resources that are sent home
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
I, the student, will:
- Read aloud or silently with parents for 20 minutes each night to help improve your reading fluency
- Retell each story you read each night to your parents
- Practice counting to 120 aloud weekly to your family/parents
- Practice filling in missing numbers when counting or skip counting (5, 10, 15, __, 25…) with your family/parents
- Practice addition and subtraction number facts to 100 with or without flashcard 3x a week with your family/parents
- Practice identifying numbers up to 120 weekly by using magnetic numbers on the refrigerator, on cards, or even by writing them with your family/parents
